Men’s C Team Report 2015 – Gloucester League – Division 6A

This year the Mens C team played again in Division 6A of the Gloucestershire Summer League, following a long winter of uncertainty as to whether we might be relegated to a lower division. This year presented us with a new adversary Prestbury as well as a more familiar one Tewkesbury Park, whom we had not played for a number of seasons. The squad this year was a little depleted due to injuries sustained over the winter period and family commitments.

Our season started poorly with a 0-4 loss against Chalford at home followed by Cam & Dursley away. We then won our first point with a 1-3 loss against local rivals Cirencester. Those opening matches pretty well set up the league for the rest of the season. A week later things improved as we got our first draw against Cam & Dursley who were topping the table. A further three draws followed. The first was against Tewkesbury Park, our closes match of the season with four three set rubbers. The second was against Presbury where we came from 5-0 down in a set to then win it and secure a critical rubber. The last against Chalford was a close run match too, but we remained in the lower portion of the table.

We are now into July with our final 3 matches to come. Things didn’t start well with a 1-3 away loss to Tewkesbury Park. This was followed by another loss of 0-4 to Cirencester who were now fighting for the top with Cam & Dursley. If the rule of symmetry was to pervade then, we were going to loose our last match. I was struggling to get a team but fortunately for us Brett was back from his travels so we
called upon his services to take home another draw against Prestbury.

I would like to thank the squad of Bill Ferguson, Marcus Galea, Rogan Galea, Matt Webster, Matt Wookey, Nigel Ward, Brett Watson and new members Ollie Strutt & Theo Martin. I know many of the squad are disappointed by the results but I commend them for playing with a positive spirit. Unfortunately we find ourselves again being the foundations of the table on which the others stand!
