Men’s B Team Report 2016 – Gloucestershire League – Division 6A

Posted on 1st December 2016, by Tetbury Dolphins in News. Comments Off on Men’s B Team Report 2016 – Gloucestershire League – Division 6A

This year the Mens C team played in Division 6B of the Gloucestershire Summer League.  This presented us with some familiar adversaries like Redmarley whom we had not played for a number of seasons. We also welcomed a new member to the squad, John Esposito, who had joined the club the previous season.

Our season started poorly, but never the less an enjoyable 0-4 away loss against Redmarley. As always the match was played in good spirits along with good hospitality post match.  This was followed by a less familiar team from Bredon against whom we managed to win our first point of the season.   Next came our second point from a home match against Lydney but it was also to be the last match to be played by Ollie this season.  This was due to work commitments which led him to spending the rest of the season in foreign lands. Another two 0-4 defeats were to follow with the return matches against Bredon followed by Gotherington away.

We were now half way through the season and yet to secure a win let alone a draw.  Perhaps our luck was about to change by the team securing a hard fought draw against Painswick, but alas no.  The next four matches led to 1-3 defeats, but like the rest of season these were close fought rubbers.  So where did this leave us at the end of the season?  Not last!  For the first time for a couple of seasons we were off of the bottom of the table, just!

I would like to thank the squad of Bill Ferguson, Marcus Galea, Matt Webster, Matt Wookey, Nigel Ward, Ollie Strutt, Keith Bossy and John Esposito.  I know some may be disappointed by yet another season of frustration but hopefully, with a new captain next year, things will improve. I commend the squad for their commitment and for playing with a positive spirit, ensuring that we always managed to field a full team.
